The export of oilmeals down by 52% in January 2018 compared with January 2017

The export during January 2018 is provisionally reported at 116,150 tons compared to 239,613 tons in January 2017 i.e. down by 52%, as per the export of oilmeals data compiled by The Solvent Extractors' Association of India for the month of January 2018. The overall export of oilmeals during April 2017 to January 2018 provisionally reported at 2,362,049 tons compared to 1,409,527 tons during the same period of last year i.e. up by 68%.

On 17th November 2017, Government raised the import duty on edible oils by 12.5 to 15% across the board and increased MEIS on soybean meal to 7% from 5%. This steps has made Indian oilmeal more competitive in the world market and may result in to larger export of oilmeals during current year.

 

Secondly, after two difficult years, export of oilmeals has revived in the current year, but still lower than earlier years, when India used to export annually over 40 to 45 lakh tons of oilmeals.

South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany & Europe - Major Importers of Oilmeals:-

During April'17- Jan.'18 oilmeal imported by Vietnam from India reported at 445,489 tons compared to 271,144 tons; consisting of 31,169 tons of soybean meal, 70,123 tons of rapeseed meal and 344,197 tons of De-oiled Rice Bran Extraction. South Korea imported 670,204 tons compared to 463,019 tons; consisting 226,360 tons of rapeseed meal, 415,510 tons of castor meal and 28,334 tons of soybean meal. Bangladesh imported 127,275 tons compared to 176,688 tons; consisting 26,037 tons of rapeseed meal, 5,857 tons of De-oiled Rice Bran Extractions and 95,381 tons of soybean meal. Thailand imported 145,452 tons compared to 12,943 tons; consisting 101,312 tons of rapeseed meal, 9,454 tons of De-oiled Rice Bran Extractions and 34,651 tons of soybean meal. European countries were the major importer of Indian Soybean Meal. France imported 103,541 tons compared to 126,456 tons; consisting 98,310 tons of soybean meal and 5,231 tons of Castor meal and rest of European countries imported 350,514 tons of oilmeals, mainly soybean meal.

Port-wise Export : Apr.'17 - Jan.'18

The export from Kandla is reported at 1,256,033 tons (53%), followed by Mumbai including JNPT handled 344,619 tons (15%), Mundra handled 195,533 tons (8%) and Kolkata handled 353,652 tons (15%) and others ports handled 212,212 tons (9%).
