The Army said on Sunday that despite the shutdown called by the separatists, nearly 1,300 local youths sat for the Army recruitment test in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Common entrance written examination for the selection of soldier general duty, technical and tradesmen in the Indian Army was conducted at Srinagar and Pattan town in Baramulla district," Defence spokesperson Col. Rajesh Kalia said.

Authorities on Sunday clamped curfew and imposed restrictions in the Kashmir Valley to maintain law and order and to prevent violence, as top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat was laid to rest in his ancestral village in Tral of south Kashmir with hundreds attending the midnight funeral.
