12 convicted in anti-hooch crusader's murder

A court in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Friday convicted 12 people for the abduction and murder of Sourav Chowdhury, known for opposing hooch dens in the area.

Additional District Judge, Barasat, D.P. Biswas convicted nine of the accused for murder and kidnapping among other offences, and three others for "harbouring offenders" under section 212 of the Indian Penal Code .

The quantum of punishment will be announced on Saturday.

The body of the 21-year-old college student, chopped to pieces, was found beside the railway track between Duttapukur and Bamongachi stations in the district in July 2014.
