127 Himachal buildings have rainwater harvesting facility

Himachal Pradesh has constructed rooftop rainwater harvesting structures on 127 government buildings and work is on in 34 more buildings, Irrigation and Public Health Minister Vidya Stokes informed the state assembly Monday.

"The continuous change in weather conditions and global warming has made us think and focus our attention on water conservation measures," she said.

Stokes said the government was stressing sustainability measures mainly through rainwater harvesting structures and all the government buildings, institutes, schools, hotels and industrial units are required to construct rooftop rainwater harvesting structures.

"A total of 415 rainwater harvesting structures having storage capacity of 303,346 cubic metre have been completed by spending Rs.2,005.82 lakh," the minister said while replying to discussion on budgetary grants for the Irrigation and Public Health department.

 

She said work on 259 rainwater harvesting structures at an estimated cost of Rs.5,364.45 lakh and with a storage capacity of 23,36,965 cubic metre was in progress.
