5 killed in China colliery blast

Five persons were killed in China early on Wednesday after a methane gas explosion ripped through a coal mine in Hunan, authorities said.

The explosion occurred at about 3 a.m. in the Baodian Qunli Mining coal pit, an official said. A rescue operation is under way. A probe has been launched, Xinhua news agency reported.
