A six-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Uttar Pradesh, police said Thursday.
The girl's half naked body was found Thursday in a field in Sitapur district, police said.
"The girl was raped and then murdered by unknown people," an official told IANS.
The girl went missing from Maholi Baddapur village Wednesday night after which the family filed a police complaint.
The girl's family alleged that their neighbour Bhannu Singh was last seen with her.
A police officer said the private parts of the girl were badly mutilated and she has strangulation marks on her neck.
"We have registered a case against the suspect and are now trying to find him as he has gone missing," the officer said.
