The Aam Admi Party (AAP) Friday welcomed Supreme Court's decision on right to reject in elections, saying it was the first step toward electoral reforms.

"We welcome the decision, it is major step towards electoral reforms, but this is just the first step," AAP leader and social activist Arvind Kejriwal said Friday.

He was talking to reporters after meeting President Pranab Mukherjee. The president was also apprised about the apex court decision, he added.

"Earlier the process was lengthy, voters had to ask for a form under rule 49-O. Forms were not available at a number of times, and people did not want to take the trouble," he said.

Rule 49-O is a part of The Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961. It describes the procedure to be followed when a voter decides against casting his vote and wants to record this fact.

"The Supreme Court has asked Election Commission to include a 'None of the above' button in electronic voting machines. However, even if the majority chose none of the candidates, the election will not be cancelled," Kejriwal said.

"A law should be made so that in case majority of voters practice there right to reject, the election is cancelled and fresh polls are conducted," he said.
