AirAsia India gets its first aircraft

The first aircraft of the private airline AirAsia India, an Airbus A320 landed. at the domestic airport here Saturday, the company said.

The aircraft configured with an all economy layout of 180 seats from the Airbus factory in Toulouse landed at 9.25 a.m. and was given a water cannon salute while it was taxing on the runway.

"The arrival of our first A-320 signifies that we are a step closer to our dream to create a new benchmark in the low-cost air travel category. The Indian aviation industry will soon witness a prodigious overhaul with the entry of AirAsia India," Mittu Chandilya, chief executive officer said in a statement.

 

The airline which is waiting for final clearance for commercial operations is a three- way joint venture between AirAsia, Tata Sons Ltd. and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace Pvt. Ltd.
