Union Minister K.J. Alphons filed his nomination papers here on Monday for the Rajya Sabha seat from Rajasthan.

Alphons' victory is almost certain as neither the Congress nor any other opposition party has fielded a candidate.

"We have received only one nomination -- that is from K.J. Alphons -- for the Rajya Sabha seat," Pritvi Raj, Secretary, Rajasthan assembly, told IANS.

The Minister of State for Tourism is the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Rajaya Sabha polls in the desert state on November 16. The seat fell vacant after senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu became the Vice President.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, a few of her Cabinet colleagues and state BJP President Ashok Parnami accompanied Alphons when he filed his papers.

In a tweet, Alphons thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and Raje.

"Just filed my nomination to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, the most vibrant state in India. I thank the honourable Prime Minister, Amit Shah ji and Rajasthan Chief Minister," he said in the tweet.
