Assam Police Monday launched two helpline numbers to assist people from the state whose relatives are stranded in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

The government said it has sent to the Jammu and Kashmir government a list of 45 people believed to be there.

Those are either pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi temple, tourists or those working in Srinagar.

"We are in touch with police in Srinagar," an official said.

Officials said it was difficult at the moment to ascertain how many people from Assam were stranded in the Kashmir Valley.
