Stepping up heat on West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday held a rally in which cultural personalities attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led government over a host of issues.

Attended by the likes of Bengali actors George Baker and Joy Banerjee, magician P.C. Sorcar, and veteran journalist and party spokesperson M.J. Akbar, the BJP rally was taken out endorsing the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the multi-crore-rupee Saradha scam.

The BJP's rally comes days after a large number of Bengali movie and TV actors, cultural personalities, and poets, owing allegiance to the Trinamool, walked through the city's streets Nov 28, protesting the BJP-led central government's "conspiracy" to besmirch West Bengal's reputation.

Accusing the Banerjee government of "looting the people of Bengal", Akbar said the rally demonstrated the masses' anger against the state government on the issues of scams, corruption, unemployment.

"The people of Bengal want jobs. Instead, they are being looted. Bengal wants progress. Instead, they are witnessing dacoity," he said at the rally.
