Brazil's World Cup stadium in new setback

Brazil's Arena Pantanal World Cup stadium will not be ready until May, barely a month before football's showpiece tournament begins.

The stadium in Brazil's western city of Cuiaba was slated to open March 22 after missing an original December 2013 deadline set by football's governing body FIFA, reports Xinhua.

The latest postponement has been caused by a delay in the installation of the stadium's 42,000 seats by local builder Kango Brasil.

"The company has guaranteed the seats will be delivered by the end of the month but we have until May 6 to have all of the seats installed," Mato Grosso state governor Silval Barbosa said.

Chile and Australia will play the first World Cup match at Arena Pantanal June 13.

Other World Cup fixtures scheduled at the stadium are Russia-South Korea, Nigeria-Bosnia and Japan-Colombia.
