Builder's family held hostage, robbed in Delhi

A group of five robbers Wednesday barged into the house of a builder, held his family members hostage on gun point as they ransacked the house and fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs.20 lakh, police said Wednesday.

Police suspect the role of a recently-employed servant who was also on run along with the robbers, in the crime.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. at Sarita Vihar area in south Delhi, when the builder Jyoti Bhatia's wife, his daughter in law and a servant were present in the home.

Five people entered the house and held both women hostage on gun point for half an hour in a room and fled away with cash, jewellery and other valuable items.

 

The women somehow managed to inform the neighbours and police.

Police said the servant was also on run with the assailants.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Randhawa told IANS that the cash and jewelry of worth around Rs. 20 lakh was missing.

Several teams of police were formed to nab the accused.
