Cabinet approves MoU with Kyrgystan on tourism cooperation

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday accorded its approval to the signing of agreement with Kyrgystan for strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism.

According to a cabinet communique, an MoU will be signed between Tourism Ministries of India and the central Asian nation.

"Considering the mutual benefits, signing of a MoU in the field of tourism would enable both parties to enter into a constructive dialogue for development and promotion of tourism in each other's country for the economic development of two nations," it said.

"The signing of MoU with the Kyrgyz Republic will be instrumental in increasing arrival from this important source market."

 

As per the release, the objectives of the agreement envisage "expansion of bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector; exchange of information and data related to tourism; encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels and tour operators; establishing exchange programme for cooperation in human resource development and investment in the Tourism and Hospitality sectors".

As per the release, 2,729 tourists from Kyrgystan visited India in 2015, while the number has gone to 2,883 this year, till November.
