Cabinet nod to funds for backward region

The cabinet Thursday approved continuation of the district component of the Backward Regions Grant Fund that will accelerate socio-economic development of 272 backward districts in 27 states in India.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved continuation of the programme during 2013-14 at a cost of Rs.6,500 crore.

During 2012-13, an amount of Rs.3,720 crore was released to the states.
