Bravery and presence of mind on part of a cashier and security guard, who sustained a gunshot injury, helped foil a Rs 25 lakh robbery bid on Wednesday afternoon at an ATM in west Delhi, police said.
The cash van they were travelling in had Rs 1.23 crore when the robbery bid was made but the amount was not looted, the officer added.
Police said cashier Pradeep Kumar, 41, and security guard Dileep Tiwari, 54, parked their cash van outside a narrow street and went to deposit Rs 25 lakh at the State Bank of India ATM in Kanjhawala when two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants fired at and injured Dileep in his leg.
Pradeep, who was inside the ATM hid the cash bag behind the ATM and came out and lied to the robbers that he had only come to repair the non-functional ATM.
Meanwhile, the assailants snatched Dileep's licensed rifle and fled, a police officer said. He was admitted to a nearby hospital.
