Chicago Fire sign Brazilian defender

Chicago Fire have signed Brazilian centre-back Adailton for the 2015 US Major League Soccer season.

Adailton joined the Fire for an undisclosed fee from Brazilian Serie A outfit Bahia, according to a statement on the US club's official website.

"[He] is a strong, powerful defender," Xinhua quoted Fire's head coach Frank Yallop as saying. "This is a position we were looking to fill, so I'm pleased that we will be adding a player with his experience to our team."

The 31-year-old's career has included spells at French Ligue 1 side Rennes and Switzerland's FC Sion.

"I have been watching MLS closely over the past several seasons and ever since 2004 while in France, I made it a goal of mine to play in the United States," Adailton said.
