Congress ex-legislator in Himachal dies

Former Congress legislator Lajja Ram died on Sunday following a heart attack, family members said. He was 82.

The cremation of Lajja Ram, a four-time member of the Himachal Pradesh assembly, would take place on Monday at his native place Doon in Solan district.

"He suffered a heart attack at his residence (in Doon) and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead," a member of his family said.

His son Ram Kumar Chaudhary is the first-time legislator from Doon.

Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh mourned his death.
