At least 150 Indian Youth Congress activists were detained Thursday while protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government for failing to fulfil its poll promise of bringing back black money stashed away in foreign banks.

The protest was held at Jantar Mantar in the heart of the capital where nearly 2,000 protestors assembled and raised slogans against the government.

"We are protesting against the government as they have not been able to fulfil any of the promises made, whether it was about black money or border incursions," Amit Mallick, Delhi president of the Indian Youth Congress, told IANS.

Some protestors tried to break police barricades and were detained. They were taken to a nearby police station and allowed to go after a few hours.

The police used mild force to control the crowd.

"We had to use force and detain a few of them as they turned aggressive," Additional Commissioner of Police S.B.S. Tyagi told IANS.
