At least eight militants were killed in an airstrike in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of Khyber Agency on Friday.

As per details, Pakistan Air Force jets pounded two hideouts in Khyber Agency, a semi-autonomous tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The strike also left several militants injured.

The identities of the killed militants were not revealed by the military, but the area is considered to be the hotbed of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan activity.

Launched in October last year, the Khyber Operation aims at the eradication of militancy from the Khyber Agency.

Over 500 militants have been killed and more than 400 have surrendered during the operation which was conducted in two phases -- Operation Khyber 1 and Operation Khyber 2.
