An emergency warning was issued Saturday for the bushfires burning on North Stradbroke Island in Queensland.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services warned that conditions on the island would be very hot and windy during the night, and the fire is moving rapidly and currently out of control, Xinhua reported.

Power, water and mobile phone supplies might be lost in the area during the night, according to the emergency services.

Residents have been urged to leave their homes. "Leaving is the safest option for survival."

"Multiple fire crews are working to contain the blaze but firefighters will not be able to protect every affected property and residents should not expect a firefighter at their door," it added.

At present, a total of 50 firefighters are battling against the fires on the island, with helicopters on standby to dump water bomb.

The bushfires have been burning on the island for a week and resulted in an evacuation of about 900 campers last Wednesday.

High temperatures across Queensland over the past few days made the bush prone to ignite and the wind made the fires spread quickly.
