An Etihad Airways plane made an emergency landing at Brisbane Thursday after sending out a Mayday call, the airline said.

The Airbus A-330 carrying 175 passengers took off from Brisbane's international airport shortly after 2 p.m. en route Singapore. It turned back due to flight-deck instrument failure and landed at around 2.30 p.m. local time an Etihad Airways spokesman said.

"The flight crew followed the standard operational procedures, declared an emergency and made a precautionary landing," the spokesman said.

"The aircraft landed without incident and all passengers and crew are safe. The passengers are being rebooked to continue their journey on an alternate carrier", the spokesman added.
