A powerful explosion occurred in front of the Italian consulate in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo on Saturday, a security officer said.
He said the blast was triggered by a car bomb, Al Ahram reported.
According to Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, one person had died and four were injured, Al Ahram reported.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion. The bomb destroyed the consulate's entrance and its facade, the official added.
The Italian consulate complex in downtown Cairo includes a cultural centre and a social club.
