Five people from Uttarakhand trapped by a human trafficking gang in Uganda have returned to India safely, officials said here on Thursday.

Surendra Kumar, media in-charge of Chief Minister Harish Rawat, said that while two people had been brought earlier, three more reached Mumbai on Thursday.

Uttarakhand official O.P. Badani, who has been deputed by the chief minister's office and is camping in Mumbai, received them at the airport and coordinated their travel plans to come to the hill state.

The expenses of their forward journey would be borne by the state government, another official told IANS.

"Efforts are also underway to bring back safely the remaining four people still stranded in Uganda and we are having talks with the Indian embassy there to ensure their safe and early return," the official added.
