With an all-time high procurement of over 53.24 lakh tonnes of paddy by procurement agencies this season, a new record has been set in Haryana, a minister said on Tuesday.
"The procurement is much higher than the 42.69 lakh tonnes paddy procured in the corresponding period last year," said Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Karan Dev Kamboj.
"Farmers have been made payments of Rs 8,048 crore for this record procurement," he added.
Kamboj said that a total of 65.37 lakh tonnes paddy has so far arrived in the mandis (grain markets) of the state as against 58.14 lakh tonnes last year.
Millers and dealers have procured about 12.13 lakh tonnes of paddy during the current season.
Karnal, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts were leading in paddy arrival and procurement.
