Himachal CM lays stone of vegetable marketing yard

IANS Kullu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a vegetable marketing yard to be built at a cost of Rs. 7.17 crore at Bandrol near here.

He said the yard would mainly benefit the fruit and vegetable growers of Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts.

He said more such marketing yards would be built in Tapri, Jhukhala, Charankhud and Rohru areas of the state.

To facilitate the farmers and to make them know the daily wholesale rates of the fruits and vegetables, he launched a website of the state agriculture marketing board (agmarket.nic.in).

Himachal Pradesh annually earns more than Rs.2,500 crore from the cultivation of vegetables, whereas horticulture generates more than Rs.3,200 crore annual income.

The cultivation of exotic vegetables and flowers in polyhouses and setting up of controlled atmosphere chains is expected to add to earnings for growers.
