Himachal Pradesh will revive a silk mill that was engaged in producing silk yarn and fabric, an official said here Thursday.

State-run Himachal Pradesh General Industries Corporation (HPGIC) will revive its silk mill.

The decision to revive the silk mill based in Nurpur in Kangra district has been taken keeping in view the good demand for the product, a government spokesperson told IANS.

The mill will produce quality fabrics in chiffon, crepe and pure silk with latest designs and prints.

"The HPGIC has tied up with NIFT in Kangra for technical support in designing outfits," he said.

The HPGIC, he said, would provide training in modern techniques to the mill employees so that quality of cloth could be improved, besides upgrading the machinery and equipment.

More than 9,000 farmers are involved in cocoon cultivation in the state, mainly in lower hills of Bilaspur, Mandi, Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Sirmaur districts.
