It was a hot and sultry day in the capital with the maximum temperature settling at 39.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above the average. The Met office has forecast light rain Tuesday with thunder storms developing through the night.
The minimum temperature settled at 30.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the average. The humidity hovered between a high of 77 and a low of 43 percent.
"The skies will remain cloudy with rain and thunder shower developing from (Monday) night onwards," said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official.
Tuesday's maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 36 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The monsoon arrived in Delhi last Sunday, a fortnight ahead of schedule, but the national capital has not received any rain since due to the weak phase of the monsoon, according to the IMD official.
