Indian Coast Guard patrol vessel commissioned

Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajdhwaj, a 50-metre-long inshore patrol vessel (IPV), was commissioned Wednesday in Chennai by Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan.

According to a press release by the defence ministry, the function was attended by Indian Coast Guard Director General Vice Admiral Anurag G. Thapliyal.

The IPV is equipped with "the most advanced and sophisticated navigational and communication sensors and equipment", the release said.

The ship can be propelled to a maximum speed of 31.5 knots. At economical speed of 14 knots, it has an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles.

The ship is the eighth in the series of IPVs designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders Engineers, Kolkata.
