Intermittent rain in NCR, little respite from heat

Parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced intermittent rain on Tuesday afternoon affording residents a little respite from heat, the weather office said. The relief was, however, likely to be short-lived with humidity expected to rise, analysts said.

The showers mostly in the region of Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and parts of south and east Delhi lowered the day temperature by almost five degrees Celsius.

"Though monsoon has not been withdrawn from Delhi yet, these are not monsoon rains. These are temporary rains which would continue for some days and are expected to increase humidity," an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Private weather forecaster Skymet said the intermittent rains, which were due to formation of Cumulonimbus (Cb) clouds, would continue till October 9.

"These are temporary rains and will not provide any respite from heat. Humidity would increase," said Skymet Director Mahesh Palawat.
