Legendary Japan Warriors won four of the five sets to defeat Philippine Mavericks 29-15 in an International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) contest on Friday.

Warriors' Marat Safin brought alive memories of his sparkling past as he won the set 6-3 over James Blake -- his big serves towering through in the legends match.

Young Kurumi Nara was the cynosure of all eyes as she handed a crushing 6-1 defeat to Jarmila Gajdosova in just 21 short minutes.

The Warriors were on a roll, Mirjana Lucic-Baroni-Leander Paes came out for the mixed doubles and did some more damage when they beat Jarmila Gajdosova/Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-2, the experience of Paes on the nets coming in good for the team.

Men's doubles saw even more exciting tennis action with Roger-Vasselin-Treat Huey stepping it up for the Mavericks against Perre-Hugues Herbert-Paes, taking the set right down to the wire, with an exciting shoot-out that went 6-5 in favour of the Mavericks.

Herbert overpowered Ivo Karlovic in the men's singles 6-3 to complete the victory for the Warriors.
