NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Thursday lauded Jharkhand for registering 19 per cent growth in the agriculture sector and advised farmers to adopt dairy and organic farming.
"Jharkhand is the only state in the country that has achieved a 19 per cent growth in the agriculture sector in last four years," Kant said at the Global Agriculture and Food Summit 2018 here.
He said the Centre is taking several steps to bring a revolution in the agriculture sector.
"The government of India has taken many steps to increase farm production through the use of technology. In my view, farmers should not just rely on agriculture but also adopt dairy farming. We should learn water management from Israel," said Kant.
Amul India Managing Director R.S. Sodhi said that Jharkhand could generate Rs 8,000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore by boosting daily production of milk by 25 lakh litres.
"Jharkhand is a deficit state in milk production. The state produces 52 lakh litres of milk, but it requires an additional 75 lakh litres of milk to meet the national average," said Sodhi.
