LG orders enhanced security at girls' schools

Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday stressed upon a structured mechanism for interaction between police officers and principals of girls' colleges/schools, and deployment of more security guards in and around such institutions to generate a greater sense of security among them.
While chairing a law and order meeting of the Delhi Police, Baijal stressed the need to have a structured mechanism of interaction between the Station House Officers (SHOs) and the heads of the girls' institutions for a prompt response in cases of need.
He also advised the Education Department to deploy more security guards in and around schools during girls' shift to make them feel safer.
The LG also reviewed the measures being taken by the police to curb the menace of mugging and other street crimes, among other things.
The Delhi Police made a detailed presentation on the preventive measures taken by them like identification of hot spots of crime, enhanced visibility of police in field and enhancement of community participation.
According to the police, 174 anti-snatching teams have been constituted and 877 snatchers have been apprehended in 2018.
Baijal also stressed upon intensification of beat patrolling on motorcycles as it serves the dual purpose of increased police visibility as well as greater area coverage in a short span of time.
He suggested that community engagement initiatives like Eyes and Ears Scheme, YUVA, Sashakti, Neighbourhood Watch Scheme and Prahari be intensified to get optimum results.
On the safety of senior citizens residing alone, he directed that the police must register such people through an outreach programme and conduct regular surprise checks.
The meeting was attended by the Delhi Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi Commissioner of Police, Director (Education), Director (TTE), Commissioner (Excise), Special Commissioner (Transport), and Special and Joint Commissioners of Police.
