West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has protested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against his government's decision to transfer funds of the 100 days work scheme directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts, alleging that it was "bypassing the state administration" and "violating the federal spirit of the constitution".

She expressed her protest in a letter to the Prime Minister, and copies of the missive were sent to other non-Bharatiya Janata Party state governments.

"The Centre's decision to deposit the wages under the 100-days work scheme directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts bypassing the State Government is perceived to be an unwarranted encroachment on the states' rights," Banerjee wrote in her letter.
