A 45-year-old assistant sanitation inspector of North Delhi Municipal Corporation was shot dead by some unidentified bike-borne assailants here Thursday morning, police said.

The attack was reported around 6 a.m. from east Delhi's GTB Enclave area.

Ashok Kumar, a resident of east Delhi's Shahdara, was shot in his waist while going to his office.

Kumar is survived by his wife and four children.

"Ashok was shot a few minutes after he left his house on his motorcycle to go to his office. A rickshaw-puller took him to GTB hospital where he was declared dead," said a police official.
