Britain's Mo Farah retained the title of the Great North Run, a traditional half marathon event, on Sunday.

Farah, who just defended his world 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the Beijing World Championships last month, out-sprinted 2014 London Marathon runner-up Stanley Biwott for the victory, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 32-year-old clocked 59 minutes 22 seconds to become the Britain's fastest half marathoner.

Mary Keitany of Kenya retained the women's title in 1:07.32, beating second-placed Gemma Steel of Britain by three and a half minutes.

Six-time Paralympic gold medallist David Weir captured a record-equalling sixth men's wheelchair crown. And fellow Briton Shelly Woods won her seventh wheelchair title.
