Expressing concern over the pending cases in courts, Meghalaya Governor R.S. Mooshahary Wednesday urged lawyers to minimise adjournments to ensure speedy delivery of justice.

"Lawyers can delay the process of justice administration. It is said a bad lawyer is one who drags cases for years, and a good lawyer is one who drags cases even longer. But you all need to introspect on this," he said.

Mooshahary was speaking at the inaugural function of the centenary year of the Shillong Bar Association, which was formed in 1913.

"Most of you come to know about the truth like policemen who investigate criminal cases. You also come to know about the truth but you have to act against it but nevertheless, when the truth is obvious, you must tell the party concerned in the spirit of justice that the case is not strong enough and you will not be successful in the case."

Urging lawyers to be on the side of truth to ensure justice, especially for the poor and underprivileged, Mooshahary said that a poor man would not want to fight the rich and he tolerated exploitation.
