Myanmar's newly-elected parliamentary House of Nationalities (Upper House) started its first session here on Wednesday as part of the new parliament's new session after the expiry of the previous term of the legislative body.

The summon for the first session of the new House of Nationalities came nearly three months after the end of the general election on November 8, 2015, in which the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi won the absolute majority of the parliamentary seats, Xinhua reported.

The first session of the House of Nationalities chaired by U Zone Lal Htan of the NLD summoned a total of 223 members of parliament to the House of Nationalities.

According to the agenda, the session will elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Nationalities.
