New Year to begin on 'dry note' in J&K

Night temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir and the Ladakh region on Saturday remained notches below the freezing point as the weather office said dry, cold conditions would continue for next 24 hours.
"New year celebrations will be without any snowfall this year. We are expecting cold, dry weather to continue in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours," a MET official said.
"Rain and snowfall activity is expected to break the continuing dry spell in the state on January 4 and 5."
The official said the lowest night temperature was minus 3.8 in Srinagar, minus 3.3 in Pahalgam and minus 1.6 in Gulmarg.
"Leh town of the Ladakh region was the coldest in the state at minus 11.5 followed by Kargil at minus 10.2," he said.

"The night's lowest in Jammu city was 9.8, 9.8 in Katra, 5.7 in Batote, 2.2 in Bannihal and in Bhaderwah it was 2.0," the official added.
