One killed in Beijing varsity lab explosion

One person was killed on Friday during an explosion in a chemistry lab at a university in China's capital Beijing.

The blast occurred on the second floor of the chemistry building of Tsinghua University, Xinhua news agency reported.

Teachers and students in and near the building were evacuated, police said.

The fire has been put out and an investigation is under way.

The victim, a post-doctoral researcher, is yet to be identified.
