The Pakistan Railways on Friday launched an investigation into a train disaster that killed 19 people, including four army officers.

The Inspector of Railways, Mian Muhammad Arshad, will probe the Thursday accident in Gujranwala in Punjab, The News International reported.

The 19 people were killed when three coaches of a special train carrying army officials fell into a canal. Another coach derailed when a railway bridge collapsed when the train was passing over it.

Rescue teams, including army aviation helicopters and Special Services Group divers, still searched for possible survivors.

Earlier, Railway Minister Saad Rafique said the train accident seemed to be an act of sabotage.
