Delhi Police on Wednesday saved the life of a mentally unstable person, who had climbed an over 50-feet high-voltage electric pole in the national capital.

Police said the incident occurred in south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area at around 8.30 a.m. Some locals called the Police Control Room (PCR) and informed them about the incident in Nehru Nagar locality.

"Police personnel from the Lajpat Nagar Police Station, along with BSES employees, officers of Delhi Fire Service and CAT team, immediately reached the spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said.

They found that a man -- Rampreet -- had climbed the electric pole and was waving to the people, the police officer said.

"BSES employees cut the power supply, after which the police team and the Delhi Fire Service personnel somehow managed to bring Rampreet down," Baaniya said.

Rampreet, who stays in JJ Kapoori Thakur Camp and is a native of Madhubani in Bihar, has been admitted in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment.

"Prompt action by police team saved a human life," the officer added.
