Vijay Shankar Prashanth lived up to his higher ranking by defeating Russia's Ivan Gakhov 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6) in the final of the MCC-S.R. Subramaniam Memorial ITF Men's Futures tennis tournament here on Saturday.
Ranked 476, Prashanth survived a mid-match slump to overcome Gakhov (619), whose dream run, that included a quarter-final win over top seed Saketh Myneni, thus came to an end.
