Nearly a 100 Tibetans and Taiwanese Buddhists congregated in Taiwan to pray for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Nepal, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said here on Friday.

The prayer was organised by the Office of Tibet and the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association. Donations were also collected for relief efforts in Nepal.

Speaking at the prayer service, Office of Tibet representative Dawa Tsering said Tibet shares a close historical, cultural and religious bond with Nepal. A significant portion of Nepalese population not only follows Buddhism but also shares the same Tibetan culture, he added.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has lived in India since fleeing his homeland in 1959. The Tibetan exile administration is based in this northern Indian hill town.
