Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday questioned the government's Pakistan policy, saying it was swinging "from one extreme to another" while dealing with Islamabad.

Presiding over the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting here, Gandhi also said that soldiers were suffering the highest casualties in decades and accused the government of being callous towards the troops.

"The government has swung from one extreme to another in dealing with Pakistan and the issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir," Gandhi said.

"In recent months, our jawans have suffered the highest casualties in decades. They are being cruelly 'rewarded' by a callous government with denial of OROP (One Rank One Pension) and cut in disabilities pensions."

Congress President Sonia Gandhi skipped the meeting. The party said she was unwell.

The CWC is expected to discuss organisational polls and strategy for the winter session of Parliament as well as assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa and Manipur.
