Rahul slams Modi over Gujarat CM family's 'manipulative trades'

IANS  |  New Delhi

Vice President on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Modi after market regulator imposed penalties on several entities, including Chief Minister Vijay Rupani's family, for "manipulative trade".

"Na khaunga na khane dunga ki kahani. Shah-zada, Shaurya aur ab (Another story of 'will not do corruption myself, nor allow others')," Gandhi tweeted.

The scion's remarks came in the wake of charging 22 entities, including Rupani's Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), with "manipulative trades" in a little known company Sarang Chemicals.

The regulator has imposed separate penalties amounting to Rs 6.9 crore on the 22 entities, which the investigation found were "connected or related".

Rupani's HUF has been asked to pay Rs 15 lakh, while three other individuals will have to shell out Rs 70 lakh or more each.

The alleged manipulative transactions were done between January 2011 and June 2011 - the investigation period. Rupani took charge as Chief Minister in August 2016.
