The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared the setting up of Braj Planning and Development Board to oversee development works in towns of Mathura and Vrindavan.

The proposal was given the nod at a cabinet meeting in Lucknow on Tuesday afternoon.

At a public meeting in Goverdhan on March 11, Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav indicated his willingness to move ahead with the proposal for a new board.

The bill will be presented in the assembly soon.

Mathura Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) vice chairman Nagendra Pratap Singh said a super specialist body was needed to coordinate action by several agencies. The board will speed up work on various infrastructural projects, he said.
