Seven labourers, who were abducted by Maoists in Bihar's Jamui district, were released Sunday after 10 days in captivity following a combing operation by the police, an official said.

Armed Maoists March 13 abducted the seven labourers, who were engaged in excavation work near a river bed, from near Navinagar village in Jamui, about 200 km from here.

Police official Surender Singh said police will now question them in the hope of finding out where the Maoists had kept them.

Police suspect the workers were abducted because they refused to pay the levy demanded by the Maoists.

Jamui is considered a Maoist stronghold.
