Shuttler Bhat enters German Open quarters

Former Indian national badminton champion Arvind Bhat continued his good form by progressing to the men's singles quarter-finals of the $120,000 German Open Grand Prix Gold here Thursday.

Bhat beat Malaysian World No.40 Daren Liew 21-14, 21-12 in a Round 3 clash, which lasted 39 minutes at the RWE-Sporthalle, to take a 2-0 lead in career meetings.

The Indian will next face Danish 14th seed Viktor Axelsen for the first time in his career.

It was a bad outing for all other Indian shuttlers.

A day after stunning top Indian male shuttler Parupalli Kashyap, H.S. Prannoy went down to South Korean sixth seed Wan Ho Son 14-21, 15-21 in 42 minutes.

 

Earlier, Chinese Taipei's 15th seed Tien Chen Chou got rid of Mumbai's Anand Pawar 21-14, 21-11 in half an hour.

In women's singles, Japanese seventh seed Eriko Hirose beat Arundhati Pantawane 21-18, 21-16 in 42 minutes.
