Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa met visiting South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won Friday and discussed ways to boost bilateral investment and trade, Xinhua reported.

The three-day official visit of Chung from Aug 28 to 30 also saw him visiting the freshly expanded Colombo port, which is now the deepest harbour in South Asia.

The two leaders discussed investment and trade opportunities including the high number of Sri Lankan migrant workers in South Korea, according to a statement from Rajapaksa's office.

Earlier Thursday, Chung signed an agreement that would help Sri Lanka use South Korean technology to protect its environment and water resources.

"Korea will share its knowledge on the management on environmental issues and will explore new avenues for further cooperation in this field," Chung said.

This is the first official visit of a South Korean premier since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1977.
